REMAINS IDENTIFIED AS DEER, DISCREDITING HINTS OF RITUAL

An animal carcass found Sunday night in North Buffalo was that of a deer and not two dogs, as officials had believed Sunday night, police said today.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals examined the remains, and a spokeswoman said today the animal was a deer that had probably been killed and skinned by a hunter.

The remains were found at the foot of Merrimac Street in the vicinity of satanic graffiti near a train trestle, police said.

Residents told police the graffiti had been painted several years ago, ending any speculation the deaths were part of a ritual.
