After reading the article regarding Dennis Penman's development activity on the near East Side of Buffalo, I believe it is important for me to offer my opinion of both the article and Mr. Penman's housing capabilities.
While I do not disagree with the implicit intent of The Buffalo News to generate competition among housing developers within the City of Buffalo, it is necessary to reinforce what others have already said regarding Mr. Penman's commitment to build housing in Buffalo when nobody else would.
I have been involved in developing rental housing on the near East Side and have witnessed both the craftsmanship that goes into Mr. Penman's housing and the fact that people are now owner-occupants on what, until only a few years ago, was vacant land.
Consequently, I believe The Buffalo News should have taken a more positive attitude toward the overall accomplishments of both the city and Mr. Penman in the development of new housing on the near East Side instead of leaving the overall impression that somehow, even though housing is being built, something is tainted with the way it is being done.
