State regulators have fined the Pyramid Cos. $55,000 for violating state wastewater discharge regulations at the construction site of the $150 million Carousel Center mall.

Pyramid, the leading mall developer in the Northeast, also agreed to pay $20,000 to the state Department of Environmental Conservation to reimburse administrative costs, the DEC said.

The Syracuse-based developer will pay up to an additional $50,000 to cover the cost of an on-site environmental monitor hired by the DEC to oversee further cleanup efforts and ensure compliance with state regulations.

DEC investigators charged Pyramid with dumping excessively contaminated water into the state Barge Canal next to the construction site at the southern end of Onondaga Lake.
