A 22-year-old Buffalo man who claims he was the victim of police brutality two years ago is willing to accept a proposed $6,000 settlement, his lawyer said Friday.

Attorney Robert Dwyer said his client, Philip J. Sanok of 64 Brinkman St., is awaiting Common Council action on the payout recommended by city attorneys. The money would close the case, which never went to trial.

In his 1989 suit against the city and police Lt. Michael Smith and Officer Robert Ransford, Sanok claimed the officers used excessive force in arresting him on disorderly conduct charges during a neighborhood dispute March 6, 1988. The officers' affidavits say Sanok attacked Ransford.
