WHAT'S HAPPENING

BASEBALL: The Western New York Baseball Instructional School will be held at three locations, July 2-6 (excluding the 4th) at Casey Middle School; July 9-13 at Brighton Park; and July 16-20 in Elma. BASKETBALL: Teams are needed for men's open leagues on Mondays and Tuesdays in Amherst. Leagues begin play Monday. Call 884-7133.

COACHING OPENINGS: Frontier Central School District has openings for coaches in the following sports, assistant JV football; JV boys soccer; modified boys soccer; JV girls soccer; and boys varsity swimming. Call 649-6001, ext. 582.

CYCLING: The Vern Rischard Memorial Metric Century, a 62-mile bicycle tour starting and ending at Lincoln Park on Parker Avenue, Tonawanda, will be held at 8 a.m. on July 8. This is not a race and there is no entry fee. The route goes across the Peace Bridge and along the Niagara Parkway and returns over the Lewiston Bridge and back to Lincoln Park. A special patch will be available upon completion of the ride for $2.50. Call Dick Spengler at 824-8294.

FOOTBALL: The Town of Tonawanda Football Association will begin registration for the upcoming season on Monday at Kenney Field. Registration will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6-8 p.m. for players ages 7-14 and will run until July 31. First-time participants should be accompanied by a parent. Registration fee is $45 and all equipment is provided. Cheerleaders 8-14 also can sign up ($35 fee) at Kenney Field. For more information call Dan Crangle at 833-5708 and Pam Berry at 835-4278.

RUGBY: The first CAN/AM 7S Tournament will be held Saturday at Delaware Park. Twelve teams from Canada and the U.S. will play from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This is a qualifying event for the Eastern Championships in Virginia Beach, Va., in August. Call Lex Maccubbin at 873-6453.

SAILING: Crew members are needed to compete in a race at 6 p.m. today in Buffalo Harbor, out of Erie Basin Marina. No experience necessary. Call Bob Caetano at 856-4109.
