SENATE BILL PROTECTS CHECK CASHERS

The State Senate on Thursday gave final legislative approval to a bill that would prohibit merchants from writing credit card information on checks.

Under the bill, merchants would be permitted to ask to see a credit card as identification, but not to write a credit card number on the customer's check. It was proposed by Attorney General Robert Abrams.
