I have usually found the opinions of The Buffalo News editorials to be on the most logical side of issues. In the discussion of current problems, sound solutions are offered.
However, in the recent editorial on the problem of the mountains of used tires, the best solution was not mentioned.
Incineration for energy could be an alternative, but the method that seems most sensible is to pulverize the tires, removing steel particles with magnets. Then the powder residue of rubber, combined with highway construction material, can be used for road resurfacing. It has been tried and proven to be highly satisfactory in every way.
