HEARING DUE ON THRUWAY TOLL HIKE

The State Court of Appeals on Thursday agreed to hear a case being brought by a consumer group that wants the last state Thruway 30 percent toll increase in 1988 ruled illegal.

The state's highest court, without comment, granted the appeal to the New York Public Interest Research Group.

The group claims state law prohibited the Thruway Authority from raising tolls without the approval of State Comptroller Edward Regan.
