Accused killer J. William Buckley appealed Thursday to Warren County Court for funds to hire his own special investigator.

Buckley's court-appointed attorney, Barry Smith, filed a petition to have the court provide money to hire an investigator to work for Buckley's defense and additional funding to be used for unspecified background expenses.

"A special investigator is needed because the case covers events in two states and five police agencies," Smith told the court.

Smith based his request on "my client's 6th amendment rights to due process."

Buckley is being held without bail in the Warren County Jail in the slaying of Cathy Wilson of Jamestown after his extradition here from New York State.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 26 in County Court.
