To those who are against a constitutional amendment to protect our flag for fear that it would destroy their freedom of speech:
If a congressman wasn't listening to you when you called him on an opinion, would you break the windows in his house, tear up his front lawn or possibly set his house on fire and then go to court and say, "I'm exercising my freedom of speech" because he or she wouldn't listen to me and I don't like his policy? This method wouldn't be legal, would it? Yet we stand by and let this happen to the symbol of our country.
The amendment we're asking for will not alter the First Amendment, but it will protect our flag from contemptuous acts. We have to legally protect our flag and, since the Supreme Court's decisions, the only way to do this is by an amendment.
Wasn't Gregory Lee Johnson in contempt when he chanted, "America, the red, white and blue, we spit on you"?
Let's all band together and protect Old Glory against any further desecration.
