New Venture Gear Inc., the first joint venture between major U.S. automakers, has made its first sale to an outside company.

New Venture, a joint effort between Chrysler Corp. and General Motors Corp., Wednesday announced a four-year deal to supply parts to British automaker Rover Group.

"This piece of business is very important for us," said David R. Zimmer, president of New Venture, which makes Chrysler and GM parts.

New Venture will make five-speed manual transaxles in Syracuse for Rover's new 825 Turbo Diesel cars.
