The State Senate Tuesday approved a $250,000 five-year research program to control the spread of zebra mussels.
The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Dale Volker, R-Depew, would provide $50,000 a year to the New York State Sea Grant. It still requires the approval of the Assembly and Gov. Cuomo.
If research funds are approved by Congress, this legislation will bring New York State an additional $50,000 each year for zebra mussel research.
The tiny mussels have clogged municipal water systems throughout Lake Erie.
