Homicide charges were filed Tuesday against the mother of a 2 1/2 -year-old boy who died Saturday, about two years after she beat him.
Leslie M. Crane died Saturday in Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa., after being in a coma since the beating. The charge was filed against the mother, Tracey Jean Crane, 26, by Warren County District Attorney Joseph A. Massa Jr.
Mrs. Crane currently is serving a six- to 20-year jail sentence after being convicted on charges of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment in the beating.
Leslie's father, David M. Crane, approved removing the boy from life-support systems Saturday, after refusing the action for more than a year. Crane had said he feared his wife would face murder charges if their son died, authorities said.
