More than 70 bicyclists from throughout the United States are expected here July 27, the day before the fifth annual New York Ride Across the State begins at the Erie Basin Marina.
They will leave at 10 a.m. July 28 and local bicyclists are invited to join the ride for the first few miles of the trip, which will head south to Route 20 by way of Route 5 and Big Tree Road.
"So far, six bicyclists from the Buffalo area are registered for the whole trip," said Suzanne Toomey Spinks, coordinator, with Laurence van Heusen, of the Niagara Frontier Council of American Youth Hostels' 650-mile NYRATS ride, from Buffalo to New York City.
"Last year, we had two from the Buffalo area," he said. "The numbers are going up."
Cyclists who arrive July 27, the day before the nine-day trek begins, will be treated to a bike ride to Niagara Falls and a 7 p.m. kick-off dinner at the Spaghetti Warehouse, 141 Elm St. They will stay in Buffalo State College's Porter Hall that night.
