COURT DISMISSES LIBEL SUIT AGAINST THE BUFFALO NEWS

A state appeals court unanimously dismissed a $1 million libel suit brought against The Buffalo News by a Lackawanna city recreation worker, officials said Tuesday.

Recreation aide Angelo J. Iafallo Jr. filed a suit last October after The News had reported in 1987 that he was under investigation on charges of conflict of interest. Lackawanna city officials said they were investigating Iafallo's role as an operator of Roller Haven, a private company that rented an Abbott Road roller rink to the city's recreation program.

A panel of judges for the Appellate Division of State Supreme Court in Rochester dismissed the complaint after an attorney for The News argued there was no merit to the case and Iafallo had failed to spell out his claims as required by law.
