CORNING EARNINGS DROP 3 PERCENT

Corning Inc. earnings declined 3 percent in the second quarter because of drops in income from its associated businesses, the company reported.

The ceramic and glassware company said net income totaled $67.1 million, or 71 cents per share, for the quarter ending June 17, down from $69.4 million, or 76 cents per share, in the second quarter of 1989.

Sales rose 17 percent from $579.8 million to $678.0 million.
