Alfred Otto Falk, 82, retired foreman of Moench Tanning Co. and former president of the Gowanda Central School Board, died Tuesday (June 26, 1990) in Tri-County Memorial Hospital, Gowanda.
Falk, who was born in North Collins and educated in North Collins and Gowanda schools, also was known throughout the area as a tenor soloist and choir director.
He retired from the tanning company in 1974. He served on the School Board 15 years -- from 1963 to 1978 -- and was president for three terms. He also was a past president of the Gowanda Area Historical Society.
Falk was tenor soloist with the Guido Chorus of Buffalo from 1945 to 1955 and choir director at First Methodist Church of Gowanda from 1943 to 1959. He was choir director at Salamanca Congregational Church in 1964 and 1965 and director of the Killbuck Firemen's Male Chorus from 1964 to 1969.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. July 11 in the Mentley Funeral Home, 105 E. Main St., Gowanda.
Survivors include his wife, the former Robbin Townsey; a son, Frederick of Perrysburg; a daughter, Sydne McGowan of Gowanda; a brother, Sylvester of New Jersey; a sister, Doris Russell of North Collins; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
