THE WRONG TIME TO QUIT SMOKING

Female smokers who want to give up the habit do better if they pay attention to their menstrual cycle, says Dr. Peggy O'Hara of the University of Miami.

In a study, women who stopped smoking just before menstruation had more severe withdrawal symptoms than those who quit at other times, O'Hara says. Women who had premenstrual distress suffered the most severe withdrawal problems.
