Erie County will sponsor a statewide Conference and Trade Fair on Prevention and Containment of Petroleum and Chemical Releases on Thursday and Friday at the Buffalo Convention Center, County Executive Gorski said.
Citing the need for educational programs to help industry comply with regulations and requirements for storing and handling hazardous materials, Gorski referred to the recent chemical spill in North Tonawanda that forced the evacuation of the immediate neighborhood.
"Incidents like this are largely preventable, and when they do occur, knowing how to handle the situation can greatly minimize the effect on human health and the environment," he said. "I am thoroughly committed to Erie County being the leader in sponsoring these timely conferences and I urge area companies to take full advantage of these educational opportunities."
Preregistration for the conference and trade fair is required. For more information, call Erie County Environmental Compliance Services at 858-7472.
