CAPT. JOHN SCHLOSS, AIR FORCE PILOT

A memorial service was held today at Myrtle Beach, S.C., Air Force Base for Capt. John Schloss, 26, an Air Force pilot, who died when his plane crashed during a routine training flight.

Schloss, a native of Portland, Ore., was the husband of the former Carolyn Schwanz of Eden. He died Wednesday (June 20, 1990) when his A-10 Thunderbolt II crashed in Carver's Bay. The investigation is continuing.

Schloss graduated 21st in his class at the Air Force Academy in 1986. Later, he attended the University of Hawaii, where he earned his master's degree in political science.

Besides his wife, survivors include his parents, Gerald and Cheri Schloss; a brother Bill, and a sister, Heidi, all of Portland.
