BUFFALO ATTORNEY GIVEN SUSPENSION FROM PRACTICE

A Buffalo lawyer serving a 60-day jail term for income-tax fraud has been suspended from the practice of law for six months, court officials said Monday.

Gerald L. Kohn, 50, was suspended by the Appellate Division of State Supreme Court because of his guilty plea May 2 to failing to file state income tax returns for 1987 and 1988 when he had a combined income of about $270,000, court officials said.

On June 6, Kohn, a Hamburg resident, was fined $10,000 in Albany and began serving a 60-day jail term. Kohn resigned from a Buffalo law firm after he became one of 14 lawyers charged so far in a statewide crackdown on tax scofflaws in the legal
profession.
