VETERANS PACE BUS TO SUBURBAN ROUT

John Daskavitz and David O'Bryne, both returning after two-year layoffs, paced Lockport Bus (7-4-1) to a 18-3 rout at Alden, enabling the Busmen to retain first place in the Erie-Niagara League's National Division of The Buffalo News Suburban Baseball Association Sunday.

Daskavitz totaled seven RBIs on a grand slam and two singles, while Bill Murphy hit a double and two singles (five RBIs), Tom Boyle had three hits (three RBIs) and Jamie Seitz had two hits to lead a 16-hit attack. O'Bryne, 40, fanned five in recording his first win of the season after two losses. Dave Kocher hit a homer and single for Alden.

Two Bus players were injured. Catcher Rick Schreiner suffered a twisted back and was taken to Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston for X-rays, while infielder Bob Hartz suffered a leg injury.

Elsewhere, Ron Kiener had a three-run homer and pitched three innings of relief to get the win as Clarence edged Lockport DMI, 8-7. Kevin Herberger hit a two-run homer and single for Clarence (4-7).

Central League: Holland (6-3) recorded its fifth win in a row, 16-9, over Delevan-Arcade as winning pitcher Armand Kline had three hits (five RBIs) and Bruce Hyman and Tom Schweitzer each had two hits and two RBIs. . . . Veteran Barry Ashworth pitched Freedom (8-1) to a 13-5 win over Fillmore as Dale Williams (two RBIs) and Chet Weaver (three RBIs) each had two hits. . . . West Falls (6-2) defeated Morton's Corners, 9-6, as Pat Keem's two-run double scored the go-ahead run and Todd Olson had three hits. . . . Seth Halftown's two-run double and Frank Lewczyk's two-run single (his third hit) keyed a seven-run seventh-inning rally as Gowanda (5-2) defeated Chaffee-Sardinia, 10-7. . . . In the league's All-Star game at Belfast, the South defeated the North, 9-8, in 10 innings. Fillmore's Dave Drury hit a grand slam, a triple and a single for five RBIs and Fillmore teammate Jamie Thomas got the win, pitching the last six innings for the South.

Lake Shore/Muny AAA: Paul Hollins had two hits and the game-winning RBI and Chris LaCongo hit a bases-loaded triple for Ed Taylor (10-4) in an 8-5 win over Orchard Park.

International AA: Doug Palmer fired a one-hitter as Club KC (7-1) handed Troup Electric (7-1) its first loss, 5-1. Dave Heary's three-run double keyed Club KC's five-run fifth. . . . Nice Construction edged Culligan, 4-3, as Rudy Torres pitched a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts and Bill Kennelly had a two-run single. . . . The Dobmeier Pirates (7-1) recorded an 8-7 win over Amvets Post 45 on Dave Carver's game-winning RBI double. Tim Greger's relief pitching saved Len Verrastro's win. . . . The Madhatter Eagles (2-5) defeated the Liberatore Saints, 10-5, as Eric Schreiber, Randy Callesto and Tom Schlict each had three hits and Brian Yoshida (three RBIs) had two hits.
