Homicide detectives are continuing their search for a man known only as "New York" who is wanted in connection with a fatal shooting at about 3 a.m. Saturday.
Byron Barnes, 23, of 105 Burgard Place was shot outside a bar at East Ferry Street and Bailey Avenue.
Detectives were talking to witnesses Sunday to learn the cause of an argument between Barnes and the suspect that allegedly resulted in the shooting, Assistant Chief of Detectives Gregory Simonian reported.
Barnes was pronounced dead at about 3 p.m. Saturday in Erie County Medical Center.
The dispute started in the bar and was carried outside, where, according to witnesses, the suspect fired one shot from a small-caliber handgun and struck the victim in the right side of the head.
The suspect, who witnesses said wore a New York Yankees jacket, fled the scene in the company of about six young men, police said.
Simonian said there were many patrons in the bar at the time.
