M&T HONORED FOR AID TO ARTS

M&T Bank has won the 1990 New York State Governor's Arts Award for business support of the arts.

The Buffalo bank was honored by the state Council on the Arts for its "generous financial support and its leaderhip role in the arts in Buffalo and Western New York." M&T contributes executive help and money to many institutions and sponsors the summer-long Plaza Event series at One M&T Plaza, "one of the largest corporate-sponsored outdoor entertainment events in the United States," the Council noted.

Robert G. Wilmers, M&T chairman and chief executive officer, will accept the award from the Governor and Mrs. Cuomo in a ceremony June 28 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The bank was the only Buffalo-area winner among six individuals and organizations honored by Cuomo for their commitment to culture.
