The dollar firmed in quiet trading in Europe this morning.
In Tokyo, the dollar closed at 155.62 yen, up 0.87 yen from Friday's closing price.
Dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Friday's prices, included: 1.6765 West German marks, up from 1.6737; 1.4090 Swiss francs, up from 1.4085; 5.6300 French francs, up from 5.6220; 1.8875 Dutch guilders, up from 1.8835; 1,228.60 Italian lire, up from 1,227.25; and 1.1850 Canadian dollars, up from 1.1816.
In London, the British pound was quoted at $1.7260, down from $1.7330 late Friday.
Gold dealers in London fixed a recommended price of $351.40 per troy ounce Monday morning, up from $348.75 bid late Friday.
