Marty Krentz, an Orchard Park native who is bicycling across America with a group to raise money for heart research, is headed for Boston after passing through Hamburg this week.

Krentz, 24, is among 80 riders who set out from Los Angeles on May 13 in the "Pedal for Power" trek to benefit the American Heart Association and the League of American Wheelmen. The group has been trying to average nearly 80 miles a day during the crossing, which is expected to take 47 days -- including five rest days.

The Nichols School and Geneseo State College graduate, who works for a small environmental service company in Quincy, Mass., is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Krentz of Orchard Park.
