ROCHESTER SIGN ORDINANCE CHALLENGED BY RIGHTS GROUP

A civil rights group has filed a federal lawsuit challenging Rochester's ordinance banning lawn signs that carry political messages.

The Genesee Valley Chapter of the New York Civil Liberties Union says the ordinance violates First Amendment rights to free speech.

The ordinance allows signs for political candidates but prohibits signs carrying political messages such as "Save the Whales" or "Abortion Is Murder."
