A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph J. Fitt, former operator of a grill in the City of Tonawanda, will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Michael's Polish National Catholic Church, 250 27th St., following prayers at 10 in the Zajac Funeral Home, 319 24th St. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Lewiston.
Fitt, 79, of 70th Street died Wednesday (June 20, 1990) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Town of Lewiston.
A native of Old Forge, Pa., he moved to Niagara Falls when he was a teen-ager. After working at the Carborundum Co., he operated the Paradise Grill in Tonawanda for 13 years. Fitt later worked for the Dussault Foundry in Lockport, retiring in 1976.
During his retirement, he did maintenance work for Beverly Lanes and Thunder Bowl Lanes until 1984. He was an avid bowler. Fitt also lived in Somerset for 19 years before moving back to Niagara Falls.
He was a member of St. Michael's Polish Church, president of its Frederick Chopin Choir and a member of the Young Men's Society for Resurrection. He also was a member of the Retired Men's Service Club and was vice president of its chorus.
Survivors include his wife, the former Aniela "Nellie" Oleksiak; two sons, Robert of El Toro, Calif., and Richard of Churchville, Va., and four grandchildren.
