BAPTIST PARLEY IN FALLS EXPECTS 5,000

About 5,000 persons are expected to attend the 59th annual General Association of Regular Baptist Churches conference beginning Monday in the Niagara Falls Convention and Civic Center.

The theme of this year's convention, which will run through Friday, is "Victory in Jesus." The Rev. Joseph Laing, youth pastor of the Grace Baptist Church in the Town of Tonawanda, said the convention would be short on formal business and long on Bible study, preaching and missionary updates.

Forums and workshops will dominate the sessions with topics ranging from "Perspective on Changes in Eastern Europe" to "Reality of the Satanic Attack."

Spokesman Martin Jackson said the association is a loose confederation of about 1,600 independent Baptist churches that share an strong belief in the Bible.

Mr. Laing said "Talents for Christ," a program featuring a vocal and instrumental competition, will be presented from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at Daemen College, 4380 Main St., Snyder. The winners of the competition will perform Friday evening during closing ceremonies in the Convention Center, Jackson said.

The organization last met in Niagara Falls in 1981.
