The Springville-Griffith Institute School Board has voted to hire a foreign language teacher and an elementary teacher and to replace a school nurse-teacher with a registered nurse.
The board also voted to increase by 9 percent the salaries of the superintendent of buildings and grounds and the superintendent's secretary. School officials are continuing contract negotiations with the district's teachers and administrators.
In other business, the board approved borrowing up to $1 million in July to finance operations during the summer months before local tax monies are received. The district previously had borrowed $750,000 to function when the final 1989-90 state aid was delayed. A recent 30-day loan was sold at 6.51 percent interest, said Superintendent William I. Nennstiel.
The board adopted a new mathematics textbook and accepted a new insurance program that will cost $94,189 in premiums. The new policy will provide the district with $4 million "umbrella" coverage.
