CHAUTAUQUA TAPS ERNEWEIN TO FILL UNDERSHERIFF'S POST

Chautauqua County Sheriff's Capt. Jerome C. Ernewein will become undersheriff next month, succeeding John L. Sirianno, who recently retired.

A graduate of Jamestown High School, Ernewein served in the U.S. Air Force before joining the Sheriff's Department in 1963. He graduated from the FBI Academy in 1974.

Ernewein's duties as head of the Patrol Division will be assumed by Lt. Dale Van Vlack, who joined the Sheriff's Department in 1971 after working for the Town of Hanover Police Department.

The promotions were announced Thursday by Sheriff John R. Bentley.
