ASSEMBLY OKS BILL ON ISLAND DOCK PERMITS

The state Assembly unanimously has passed a bill that would allow the state to issue dock permits to West River Road homeowners on Grand Island, according to an aide to Assemblyman William B. Hoyt, D-Buffalo.

Lynn Marinelli said the measure, introduced in the State Legislature by Hoyt and State Sen. John B. Daly, R-Lewiston, still must be approved by the Senate before Gov. Cuomo can sign it and the bill becomes law.

Although the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has routinely issued the permits to West River Road residents for the last 20 years, a recent decision by the agency to stop the practice created the need for the new bill, according to Hoyt.

The measure would require that to be eligible for a permit, a dock must be in good repair and owners must maintain the insurance.
