The Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), a non-profit organization sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration, needs men and women to provide counseling, guidance and direction for people starting businesses as well as those already in business. People from the academic world, industry and small business are welcome.

They will be trained and will work with experienced people for a time. For information, call Carol Kruszona at the Small Business Administration, 846-4516.

Brothers of Mercy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 10570 Bergtold Road, Clarence, will sponsor a Student Volunteer Program this summer for individuals 14 and older. Assignments are available in occupational therapy, speech therapy, social services, nursing, recreational activities and in the business offices.

An orientation and tour will be provided at 10 a.m. June 27 and 2 p.m. June 28. Other orientations will be scheduled on an individual basis. Students can gain valuable experience and learn skills while helping to meet the needs of residents. Call Diana M. Recently Mary Ann Rosenberg was honored as the Center's "Volunteer of the Year"; Arthur Clark and Judy Krueger received honorable mention recognition.

The Erie County Home, 11580 Walden Ave., Alden, needs the following items for its residents: large wheelchair bags, catheter bag covers, knitted and crocheted bed socks in medium and large sizes. Patterns are available for some items. Call the Volunteer Department at 937-5719.

Nominations are being accepted for the seventh annual Eleanor Roosevelt Community Service Awards to honor agencies that have made outstanding contributions to their communities. Winners are selected for their creativity and innovative use of volunteers in meeting crucial needs in their locales. Nomination forms have been sent to more than 10,000 organizations throughout the state. Additional forms may be obtained by writing to the Governor's Office for Voluntary Service, 2 World Trade Center, New York, N.Y. 10047. Nominations must be postmarked by July 16.
