JUNE 29 PARTY TO FETE PHELPS ON RETIREMENT

A retirement party for Marty C. Phelps, a Batavia city fireman for 25 years who also volunteered to teach fire safety to thousands of youngsters, will be held June 29 in the Alexander's Firemen's Recreation Hall.

Phelps' fire safety message, which won widespread acclaim from school districts and parent groups, fell victim to state bureaucratic red tape. As a result, Phelps quit the Fire Department and went to work for an insurance company, permitting him to travel with an often graphic message of how fire can kill.

Reservations for the buffet dinner may be made with the Marty Phelps Retirement Committee, Box 1736, Batavia, N.Y. 14020.
