BOY ESCAPES SERIOUS INJURY WHEN HIT, DRAGGED BY CAR

A 4-year-old boy escaped serious injury when he was struck and dragged by a car for 36 feet on Montana Street shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

The boy was still under the car when it stopped, Officer Frank Doyle of the Accident Investigation Unit reported.

Christopher Perry of 37 Montana St. was treated for minor injuries and released from Children's Hospital.

The driver, Leroy Banks Jr., 29, of 1050 Ellicott St., was charged by Genesee Station Officers Annette Campbell and Thomas Leatherbarrow with driving while his license was suspended, having no registration, no insurance and inadequate brakes and driving at an imprudent speed.

The boy was playing with a friend when he ran into the street from behind a parked truck, Doyle said.
