A new sign will go up soon at the south end of the Niagara Thruway to eliminate confusion about which way drivers should go to travel west on the Thruway's main line.
"The problem of drivers mistaking the Ogden Street exit for I-90 westbound continues to persist," John H. Shafer, the Thruway Authority executive director, said in a letter to Assemblyman Paul A. Tokasz, D-Cheektowaga.
"Two panels will be added to the existing overhead sign located in advance of the southbound exit. One panel is an additional arrow depicting the Ogden Street ramp. The other, to be placed immediately adjacent to the new arrow, bears the legend "S. Ogden St.," Shafer said.
In addition, a sign reading "S. Ogden St." will be moved to the Ogden Street overpass just before the exit, he added. Tokasz and several residents had notified the authority that many drivers were taking the exit, thinking it was the connection to the mainline Thruway's westbound lanes.
