A ceremony marking the designation of the former Adams Hydroelectric Generating Station as an "electrical engineering milestone" will be held Thursday.

The 2 p.m. ceremony at the Power Vista at the Niagara Power Project, 5777 Lewiston Road, is being held by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Buffalo Section, and the state Power Authority.

The Adams plant site, which is east of the Niagara Falls sewage treatment plant on Buffalo Avenue and 12th Street, went into operation Aug. 26, 1895, and represented a key victory for alternating current systems over direct current.
