Nelson Mandela's first public speech to the American people will be carried live here at 9 a.m. Thursday on cable television.

The speech, to be carried on TCI of New York's Channel 37, Vision Interfaith Satellite Network, will mark the beginning of Mandela's U.S. visit.

It will be carried in its entirety and accompanied by commentary during a service of "Celebration, Thanksgiving and Commitment" at Riverside Church in New York City.

The live broadcast will reflect both South African and American musical and liturgical traditions -- and will include additional historic footage from the life of Mandela.

Cable News Network, carried on cable systems in both Buffalo and the suburbs, will provide live coverage of the Thursday morning speech, as well as Mandela's motorcade through Harlem and a rally at Yankee Stadium.

CNN will also provide live coverage of several other Mandela speeches and appearances during his U.S. visit.
