KENMORE WOMAN, PET, PERISH IN FIRE

A Kenmore woman, 56, died Wednesday in a fire that engulfed her house at 368 Warren Ave. A pet dog also died in the blaze.

Shirley Means, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Erie County medical examiner's office said an autopsy showed she died of soot and smoke inhalation.

The fire started after midnight in a bedroom. Damage was estimated at $75,000 to the 1 1/2 -story house. Firefighters from the Kenmore Volunteer Fire Department were at the scene for two hours. The cause of the fire was undetermined Wednesday night.
