An Arbour Lane man who attempted to commit suicide in the Buffalo police lockup was in fair condition today in the Erie County Medical Center.
Michael Rodriguez Sr., 35, of 77 Arbour Lane was found hanging in his cell early Monday morning, just minutes after guards had confined him. Rodriguez fashioned a makeshift noose from his socks in the suicide attempt, police said.
When Officers Aaron Salter and John Santiago found Rodriguez, they untied and revived him using an oxygen tank.
Rodriguez, accused of beating his wife, had been arrested on a third-degree assault charge earlier that morning, police said.
Officials said he refused to cooperate with police at headquarters and had to be forcibly confined to his cell.
He also was charged with harassment and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration.
