CARNIVAL GETS ASSIST ON SNOW

Warm temperatures and the lack of snow Sunday failed to freeze out area residents who fashioned eight snow sculptures for the Pike Winter Carnival.

Residents used snow from drifts on hillsides with a northern exposure or trucked it in from sheltered areas of nearby woods.

Winners were presented trophies by the Pike Fire Department. Katie VanSlyke, 11, was crowned festival princess and Andy Dunbar, 13, its prince.
