A school banner, removed two weeks ago from McKinley High School's auditorium, was discovered Saturday in a home on nearby Fordham Drive, police said.
Hertel Station Det. Jeremiah S. Hassett, who found the banner, said he wanted to talk with school officials before deciding whether to charge two youths with the theft.
"It was a prank. They don't even go to the school," Hassett said, identifying the suspects as two juveniles. The youths admitted taking the banner while they were in the school auditorium on Jan. 17, he said.
"There were some night classes going on and the auditorium was open, so they said they just took it," Hassett said.
