A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Kenmore United Methodist Church, 32 Landers Road, Kenmore, for Rita MacGamwell, 63, a lifelong village resident who was active in church, community and education groups.
Mrs. MacGamwell died Thursday (Jan. 25, 1989) in Alden after a long fight with cancer.
The former Rita Rickert attended elementary school and high school in Kenmore and graduated from Buffalo State College in 1948 with a degree in home economics.
She taught in Kenmore schools for one year before marrying Alan MacGamwell in 1949. He retired in 1981 as Kenmore West High School principal.
Mrs. MacGamwell also worked for a year for the Cayuga County Home Extension Service. In recent years, she worked in real estate in the Kenmore area.
Mrs. MacGamwell was an active member of Kenmore Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Priscilla Circle, a women's church group. She was a past president of the Mother's Club of Kenmore, an organization founded by her mother, the late Marion Rickert.
She was also active with the Girl Scouts and several parent-teacher associations and was a longtime volunteer at Kenmore Mercy Hospital.
She is survived by her husband and three daughters, Cheryl Deglopper of Kenmore, Karen MacGamwell of Strykersville and Carol Yannuzzi of Pittsburgh; a sister, Dorothy Truman of Palm Harbor, Fla., and six grandchildren.
