Police credited a city worker with capturing a suspect in the theft of a purse Thursday afternoon after seeing an elderly woman robbed at Broadway and Loepere Street.

Fillmore Station police said Roman J. Miszewski, a truck driver with the Department of Streets Sanitation, radioed police for help then ran after the robber, who ran down Loepere and cut over to Woltz Avenue, then back onto Loepere, where Miszewski stopped him and held him for police.

Joseph G. Williams, 16, of 281 Strauss St. was charged with grand larceny and possession of stolen property. Officers Stanly Kosinski and George Amplement said the purse containing $430 and personal items was recovered.
