AUDIT SCORES GOWANDA ON SEVERANCE PAYMENT

A state audit of the Village of Gowanda's fiscal year that ended last May criticized as an improper expenditure of public funds the $2,500 severance payment to former Clerk-treasurer Jeffrey R. Smith and the failure to account for $1,750 in travel expenses advanced to Village Administrator Richard Rohman.

The audit also recommended that the village keep records on fuel consumption so that they can be matched against fuel purchases and that records of payments of more than $600 to individuals not covered by regular employee procedures be forwarded to state and federal officials.
