The Akron School Board has approved an optional all-day kindergarten program that will begin in September.

The full-day will run from 8:05 a.m. to 2:22 p.m., and parents will have the option of requesting that their children attend a half-day morning program with an early dismissal, according to the board.

Elementary Principal William Hite said the busing schedule will be worked out over the summer. Informational meetings will be held in May to outline the changes, answer questions and provide additional information to parents.

The board has received numerous requests over the years from parents to lengthen the kindergarten day. A full-day program has been under consideration for the past eight years.
