WOULD YOU LIKE TO LEARN TO TEACH FIRST AID?

If the winter blahs and blues have set in, perhaps it's time to do something for someone else. There are many needs in the community and many agencies that would appreciate your help.

The American Red Cross is recruiting volunteers who will train others in how to avoid, prepare for and cope with emergencies by teaching a first aid course in the Southtowns area.

Instructor training classes for Standard First Aid, which includes adult CPR, will be held at the Southtowns Service Center, 5161 Camp Road, Hamburg from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on March 26 and 29, April 5, 12 and 19. Attendance at all classes is mandatory.

Persons interested in taking the course must be at least 17 years old and willing to teach two classes a year at the Southtowns Center. For more information, contact Katie Sacco at the Red Cross at 648-4405 or 648-4400.

The American Cancer Society, 101 John James Audubon Parkway, West Amherst, is seeking volunteers. Call Rebecca Murphy at 689-6981 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Allentown Respite Service, 111 Elmwood Ave., is looking for people to work at its Alzheimer's Day Care program between 9 a.m. and noon and noon to 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Volunteers serve refreshments, play games, do mild exercises, and participate in sing-alongs. Informal training is provided. Call Pat Kibler at 885-8227.
