ELDERLY WOMAN ATTACKED IN FOURTH ST. APARTMENT

Police said an elderly woman was attacked with a knife and a hammer and robbed of her purse containing $23 shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday in the victim's Fourth Street apartment in the Lakeview Housing Project.

Assistant Chief of Detectives Gregory Simonian of the Homicide Bureau said the woman, bleeding badly, managed to seek help from a
neighbor.

She was listed in fair condition in Buffalo General Hospital with head and upper body injuries.

The victim was robbed by another woman who asked to borrow a cup of sugar, Detectives Kenneth Bratos and Thomas Tighe of the Robbery Squad said.

The attacker was described as black, heavyset, 30 to 35 years old, wearing a plastic shower cap, a black jacket, blue jeans and sneakers, Simonian said.
