BankAmerica Corp. Chairman A.W. "Tom" Clausen reportedly is stepping down from the nation's fourth-largest banking concern, following a turnaround that moved the company from financial turmoil to record profits.

The San Francisco Examiner said the 66-year-old Clausen's retirement and his successor would be announced before the bank's annual meeting on May 24.
