PERKINS NETS 29 POINTS AS VILLA MARIA ROMPS

Bill Perkins scored 29 points Tuesday night to lead the Villa Maria men's basketball team to a 119-70 victory over visiting Niagara County Community College.

Shayne Lee had 19 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks, while Todd Esposito had 13 points for Villa (10-6). Jim Shiesley netted 20 for NCCC.

Sandy Finney (Kensington) had 16 points for Monroe CC in a 60-56 win over Hilbert. The Hawks cut Monroe's lead to three with 55 seconds left, but David Wilks hit two free throws to ice the victory. Wes Yancey (Lafayette) had 20 points for Hilbert (8-9). Monroe is 19-3.

WRESTLING: Syracuse improved its record to 6-3 with a 30-6 victory over the University at Buffalo. Gary Define won at 118 pounds and Jeff Howard posted an 8-7 decision over Joe Pavone at 158 for the Bulls.

HOCKEY: Mark Szymusiak scored three goals to set a Canisius single-season record for most goals by a defenseman and lead the Griffins to an 8-5 win at Brockport. Dennis Gawron added two goals, while Pete Speranza, Mike Sisti and Dave Yablecki had one each for the Griffs (8-9). Brockport is 5-11.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Genesee CC defeated Alfred State, 64-37, in a Penn-York Conference game. Freshman Tara Buckley scored eight of her 15 points in a 14-2 second-half run for Genesee (9-8, 9-2). Janet Kisner had 17 points and 10 rebounds for Alfred State (5-7, 5-6). . . . Tricia Atkinson's 16 points led Houghton (10-5) over Alfred University, 68-38. Tracy Smith had 10 points and 15 rebounds for the Lady Saxons (6-10). . . . Lisa Maxson's 26 points led Mercyhurst to a 63-59 win over UB. Laurie Drennen had 18 points and Heidi Steckstor 17 for the Royals (7-9). Mercyhurst is 11-3. . . . Beth Gromlowicz had 25 points and six rebounds for St. Bonaventure (9-7) in a 62-59 victory over Niagara at the Reilly Center. Kim Kuhn had 15 points and Holly Hamilton 14 for Niagara (5-9).
